Trend of the Day: Patterned Shorts
Today we’re taking a look at an outfit combination that I believe can never go out of style: Patterned shorts with neutral shirts. The best part about this combination is you can pretty much never go wrong. Flowered, polka-dotted, striped, tie-dyed, full of abstract shapes, you name it. Any of the aforementioned patterns on shorts would match flawlessly with neutral colors like black, white, brown, beige, grey or navy in tops.
There are two different types of patterned shorts that you can play with and it’s very important to pair the right type of bottom with the right top.
The first, the loose and flowy type of patterned shorts, matches best with a tight top, like a neutral spaghetti strap or cropped top. The contrast of the loose fit below compared to the tight fit above will create a show-stopping look. And, since you’re wearing a loose fitted material downstairs, if you wear a top that accentuates your tatas, no one will be mad! Also, if you want to make this outfit a bit more casual, throw a colored cardigan on over your neutral top and watch the hues unite.
The second, as you might have guessed, is the exact opposite: Tight patterned shorts and a loose top. This outfit is for a more casual setting, but can also be very versatile depending on the top you choose. Since you’re more than likely unable to let your ladies hang out in this outfit, let your other ASSets do the talking. Pair a chiffon top or a long graphic tank with a pair of tight patterned shorts and you’ll be turning heads in no time.
Below, you can see our very own Ashley demonstrating how you can get this look with three different pairs of patterned shorts. She was able to show both types of patterned shorts wear and accurately matched each individual pair of shorts to neutral colored tops to accentuate that contrast I was talking about earlier.
