Fashion Designer of the Week: Rachel Zoe
Fashion Designer of the Week is a new series we at PFF are starting to honor those who have helped contribute to the shaping of the fashion industry through their immense dedication and knowledge of the business. Each week we will highlight a current important fashion designer and discuss how they got into the industry and what they have accomplished since and provide you with opportunities to purchase their unique pieces.
This weeks Fashion Designer of the Week award goes to my personal favorite fashion designer, Rachel Zoe. Zoe once said “style is a way to say who you are without having to speak,” which was the motivational quote that led me to create this blog in the first place and my personal life motto.
Zoe was raised in Short Hills, New Jersey and developed a knack for art and fashion at a very young age by admiring her mother’s designer items. Zoe went on to graduate from George Washington University with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. After she finished school, she moved to New York City and began her career in the industry as a fashion assistant at a small fashion magazine. Within two years of arriving, she was promoted to Senior Editor of the magazine. She continued to work with multiple fashion magazines until, after ten years in New York City, she made the move to Los Angeles that would shape her career forever.
Zoe has a passion for haute couture and 1960s and 70s fashion and uses her ties with A-list Hollywood stars to showcase her incredible designs that prove so. In 2007, Zoe wrote Style A to Zoe to allow anyone and everyone access to her visions and eclectic designs and in 2008, The Rachel Zoe Project was launched on Bravo. In 2006, Zoe showcased her design talents by collaborating with Judith Leiber to create a line of couture handbags and to build her fan base, she also created a line of accessories that blew everyone in the fashion industry away.
Zoe has been wowing the fashion industry for over 20 years now and she’s still just now entering into her prime. I expect to see some of the most memorable pieces of 2014 coming from her collections. She still resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Rodger Berman, the President of Rachel Zoe, Inc. and their two adorable sons, Skyler and Kaius.
Zoe’s 2014 collection is inspired by the style of California and targets the woman who wants to be stylish, but still comfortable in her everyday life.
